What is the difference between a masking scent and a scent eliminator?

Cover or Masking scents (which ever name you prefer) serve the function of preventing the deer from detecting our human scent. There are quite a few different types of cover scents. It may be plant derivatives, animal urine, etc. Usually cover scent does not have high attraction qualities, but instead it is intended to cover your human scent by putting a strong smell into the air. The smell of a masking scent is usually fairly strong and is not offensive to the deer. In addition to masking your human scent, some cover scents actually have fear reducing qualities - they seem to relax the deer and put them at ease.

Scent elimination products like Scent Killer® Spray do not cover human scent, but instead they actually attack the human scent itself. There are a number of manufacturers of human scent elimination products, and as can be expected, some work better than others.

The reason why many hunters choose to use human scent elimination products is not hard to understand. If you can eliminate your human scent, there is less chance of the deer detecting you with his nose and spooking. There are 3 types of human scent elimination products: Clothing deodorizers to use during the washing of clothes, Special odor eliminating body soaps and deodorant to wash your body and kill odor, and scent elimination sprays like Scent Killer® to spray onto your clothing and boot bottoms before you hunt and while you are out hunting - to kill your human scent.

At Wildlife Research Center®, we make products for each of the above 3 categories of human scent elimination. We feel that ours are the most effective.
